Project Description
The Chesapeake Conservancy's Conservation Innovation Center recently completed a comprehensive visibility analysis along all of the navigable waterways of the James River watershed. This analysis provides a visual representation of areas of land which can be seen from specific points, or sets of points. In this particular case, the analysis depicts which areas of lands bordering the James River can be seen as an individual passes by in a small craft such as a canoe or kayak. The analysis also highlights areas that are more frequently visible, such as a towering bluff that could be seen from many locations along the waterway. This information is an important variable to take into account when attempting to prioritize landscapes to aim conservation efforts and funding.
